Unboxing the October 2017 Loot Crate – Mythical

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 25, 2017

I know it’s been a while, but I skipped August, loathes September, and now we’re in October. I have to admit, I was very excited about the fandoms in the box. Still, with Lootcrate, any nightmare is possible, so I opened with caution. Let’s break it down:

The Figure

So I wasn’t 100% sure which figure was supposed to be THE figure, so I’m going with the biggest one. The rounded features of Eleven kind of remind me of early 2000s video game vibe, and right on the verge of the new season, it’s a great item.

The T-Shirt

So I get the symbol is for the Ghostbusters, but I don’t think I get the pattern and color scheme behind it. Don’t get me wrong, I think it looks great, but if there’s a reference I am supposed to be getting, or a general theme, it’s not connecting. Still, love the look, love the black, but seriously Lootcrate, can’t you get women’s sizes any bigger?

The Pin

This is my least favorite item from the crate, not because it’s a grotesque Dracula, but that it doesn’t even really look like any version of Dracula. If it looked more like Nosferatu, or the Bella Lugosi version, then I could see putting it on a bag or jacket. But what am I supposed to tell people when they ask what it is? “Yeah it’s a vampire…maybe? I think?” Thanks, but no thanks.

Extra 1

So this mini figure is…cute. I had a lot of trouble getting the heads on correctly, and I’m not sure I’ve done it right yet. Still, easy assembly, not a lot of parts to put together. The detail work is nice on their costumes, the pose is epic, and the size is perfect for a desk or book shelf.

Extra 2

This is the single best item in the crate to me. A Mr. Pointy bookmark made out of wood to keep the vampire slayer spirit with you always. It’s well crafted and strong, though I worry a little that in the wrong book it will break. A great way to celebrate Halloween with a good scary book, and to always be ready for the vampiric horde.

Everything you could want for Halloween!

A fun little crate for this spooky month, with a wide variety and fandoms that actually fit the theme! The pin is a little weird, but overall, this is a solidly built crate.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
