First Trailer for Marvel’s “The Punisher” Teases Release Date

By Sara Roncero-MenendezAugust 21, 2017

For fans of the Netflix adaptation of Daredevil, the character of The Punisher was a stand-out, with a gut-wrenching performance by Jon Bernthal as the man who went to Hell and back to avenge his family. It was only a matter of time before he got his own spinoff, and it looks like it’ll be coming out before the year is through.

In the trailer above, we see Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, working a sledgehammer into concrete as we see some pretty brutal fight scenes, mostly where he’s getting the crap beaten out of him while he monologues about the past coming to back to haunt him. When the dust clears, we see the Punisher logo and then the year 2017, with the month and date intentionally obscured.

The trailer was put at the very end of the recently released Marvel series The Defenders but it was finally put online earlier today, so those still catching up can enjoy the hype. We don’t know much about the plot other than it will have to do with his career in the army, potentially with the disc he pulls out of his house before it all goes up in smoke. While we don’t see her in the trailer, we will be seeing Karen Page again, as well as some new faces like Castle’s best friend Billy Russo, Department of Homeland Security agent Dinah Madani and, of course, Microchip. There will be at least 13 episodes in the series, and there’s no official word as to whether or not The Punisher will be present in Daredevil Season 3.

The Punisher will debut on Netflix sometime in 2017.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
