Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars) Gets Third Season

Shokugeki no Souma

It was announced in the 30th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen JUMP magazine that Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki’s Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars) manga will be receiving a third anime season. The official title of the show is Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara (Food Wars: The Third Plate.)  The show will be following the story arc where they battle against the Council of Ten.

Unlike most new season/anime announcements, a release time frame was announced! The anime will begin airing as part of this year’s fall season, meaning that the show should start sometime in early October.  However, an actual concrete date was not announced.

The first season ran for 24 episodes, starting in September 2015. The second season aired in July 2016 and ran for 13 episodes. Sentai Filmworks holds the license to distribute the anime in North America. The manga has been publishing since November 2012 and currently has 24 volumes in print. VIZ Media publishes the manga in English.

MyAnimeList.net describes the story of Shokugeki no Souma as follows:

Ever since he was a child, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working as the sous chef in the restaurant his father runs and owns. Throughout the years, Souma developed a passion for entertaining his customers with his creative, skilled, and daring culinary creations. His dream is to someday own his family’s restaurant as its head chef.

Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its “Shokugeki” or “food wars,” where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns.

As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Tootsuki, more and greater challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.
