CES 2017: Acer’s Predator 21 X Gaming Laptop Is a Monstrous Piece of Hardware

By Keith MitchellJanuary 3, 2017

CES 2017 hasn’t even started yet (that’s tomorrow) and we’re already getting looks are stuff that is the stuff of dreams. But nothing so far has gained my attention more than Acer’s big ass laptop. Well, that’s not the actual name but it’s a very descriptive one. Acer’s Predator 21X Gaming Laptop is a monstrous machine that comes short of breathing fire. It doesn’t do that, at least I’m sure it doesn’t.

What it does do is pack enough hardware to make even the most jaded geek look at it in awe. With its curved 21-inch 2560×1080 display, dual GTX 1080 GPU’s, 7th generation i7 processor, four DD4 slots that can accommodate up to 64GB of ram, as well as able to support four 512GB SSD’s. Impressive, yet that screen is a bit disappointing and would have liked at least a 2560×1440 screen. Especially with all that power going to the display.

In addition to all that, the laptop also features Tobii eye-tracking, a mechanical keyboard, four speakers, two subwoofers and five fans to keep the beast cool. It’s also really heavy for a laptop, weighing in at 17 pounds. To be expected with all that hardware on board, though I’m not sure if I’d want to carry this around when I’m covering an event or out on the town.

This thing is freaking huge, heavy and expensive. Yep, that’s a gaming computer!

This, of course, doesn’t come cheap and the Acer Predator 21X Gaming Laptop clocks just shy of $9000.00! Talk about sticker shock! Seriously at that price, I could build a few kick-ass desktop PC’s and pay my mortgage. I’m not sure what market this is catering to or if there even is a market for it, but it’s pretty cool to see that someone actually attempted this. Now I’m going to be super curious to see if this sells and how many. That said, I’m sure Acer will definitely let us know when that time comes.

This isn’t the first time we’ve laid on this beast, as it was seen earlier during 2016 at IFA 2016. It his the first time that we got the pricing for the until, and we expect to see more talk of it once CES 2017 officially starts. Would love to get my hands on the laptop, but sadly we weren’t able to make it out to CES 2017, but hey Acer if you’re listening, we’d love to check it out for a review.

Expect to see the Predator 21 X Gaming Laptop go on sale during February 2017.
