Rita Repulsa cast for Power Rangers movie; Elizabeth Banks to play villainess

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieFebruary 2, 2016

Remember the days when you heard Barbara Goodson’s screeching voice over the late Machiko Soga’s (or Carla Perez in season 2, 3, Zeo and In Space) dubbing of Witch Bandora (Rita Repulsa) in the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers? Brings back memories, don’t it?

Well Lionsgate, the studio handling the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers reboot movie, as well as the handlers of the Hunger Games franchise, has cast their actress for Rita Repulsa, the main villainess of the original series, and she’s a familiar evil face for Hunger Games fans: Effie Trinket!

Elizabeth Banks, the face behind Efiie Trinket in the Hunger Games has signed on to the Power Rangers reboot to play Rita herself, and I’m not completely satisfied. While I do refuse to listen to a non-Barbara Goodson voiced Repulsa (or even Amy Jo Johnson,) fans seem to be generally pleased with the casting choice made by Lionsgate. I guess it’s going to be a wait and see approach going forward.

Speaking of Amy Jo Johnson as Rita Repulsa…

Power Rangers makes it’s theatrical debut on March 24, 2017.
