Review: Funlab Pro Controller and JoyCons

By Faith LaneNovember 6, 2023

The FunLab controllers are something that I didn’t know would have such a positive impact on my gaming life as much as they have, and I am over the moon about it. Not only are they super comfortable and have amazingly nice lights on them, but the controllers also feel like official ones for the Nintendo Switch. Here are my complete thoughts on the FunLab Pro Controllers and Joy-Cons.

Product Name: Funlab Firefly Pro Wireless Switch Controller – Zonai and FunLab Luminous Wireless Joy-pad for Switch/Switch OLED – Scarlet & Violet
Type: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Joy-Cons
Manufacturer: FunLab Switch
Compatible With: Nintendo Switch

These Controllers Bring New Freshness To The Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch has been out since 2017, and while it has its own branded Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers that are amazing by themselves, many other brands and companies have made their new that will shock many with their quality. FunLab has a wide variety of controllers, from Joy-Cons that fit perfectly in the palm of my hand to a Pro Controller that lights up in any colors you might want.

When I clipped these Pokemon-themed LED light-up Joy-Cons to my Switch, I couldn’t help but fangirl once I turned on my Nintendo Switch. Not only was I amazed by the adorable purple lights, but I soon found out that I could change the colors of the lights…then it got even better once I found out I could have TWO colored lights. Using the Joy-Cons on my Nintendo Switch helped the handheld console feel more like a Steam Deck in my hands, but a smaller version that fit more comfortably. I soon decided I would adjust the colored lights on my controllers to Halloween colors, soon followed by Christmas ones.

Things To Love About FunLab Controllers

While these Joy-Cons do add some extra weight to the overall Nintendo Switch, it is hardly noticeable to the overall experience. For first-time users, it might feel odd at first, but once using the controllers, you will wonder how you survived without them. It is worth noting that some of the buttons are moved on these Joy-Cons than where they normally are on Nintendo brand ones, but I found myself adjusted pretty quickly.

When it comes to the Pro Controller, it feels just like a normal one, with hardly any differences other than the really pretty lights. Especially when it comes to the price of a normal Nintendo Pro Controller and a FunLab Pro Controller, it is worth it to have the designs for the same price. The battery life on the controller seems to be pretty much the same, as far as I’ve noticed.

However, when it comes to the Joycon-style controllers, I have noticed my switch will go dead a bit sooner than before. But the fun thing is that it comes with a piece to turn the Joy-Cons into a controller and use them while playing on a monitor. This means that users who purchase the Joy-Cons get the best of both worlds unless they are obsessed with the Pro Controllers’ feel.

Overall Thoughts On Tech and Control

These controllers have become my go-to while playing my Nintendo Switch, so far to the point I don’t want to use my normal Nintendo-branded ones as much. Every time I turn on my Switch, I smile as they light up in my hands and are changeable to whatever my mood might be that day. FunLabs has done an amazing job of building quality controllers that fix any fandom or style in their selection.

Honestly, I haven’t found any issues with the controllers in the two months I have been using mine; charging goes smoothly, connecting to Bluetooth goes smoothly, and everything past that works well. Use code Faith-15 for a discount on your order from the FunLab website.
