Blast From The Past: Call of Duty Franchise Sale

By Nic FoxMay 25, 2023

The mega-popular shooter Call of Duty has seen some division within the community over recent years with what players consider to be far cries from the past. The community has been split on things like movement mechanics, gunplay, the introduction of gunsmith replacing the “pick 10 system,” and uninspired map design. These factors have culminated in one of the most popular goliaths of gaming becoming more and more unpopular, even among seasoned veterans.

The good news is that right now, Call of Duty is having a franchise sale, with many of its titular titles reduced to half price or more. Fans of the series on new consoles can now experience games they never got the chance to play and possibly spark some nostalgia for this long-running staple in the first-person shooter genre.

The big hitters for many will be Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which is currently on sale for $14.99 USD (with all of its DLC on sale for another $14.99 USD), Call of Duty: Black Ops, on sale for $14.99 USD, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is on sale for an enticing $9.99 USD. While these games still play like the originals, players on current-gen consoles such as the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will be treated with HDR (High Dynamic Range), making the game look slightly better than before, and also benefit from an improved framerate. Note the sale is only available for Xbox.

Personally, the game that sticks out to me is the Call of Duty: Black Ops III bundle with Zombies Chronicles. This bundle is on sale for $19.99 USD, down from $59.99! This, to me, is one of the more worthwhile sales, as players receive a full game with campaign and multiplayer intact, as well as remastered fan favorite zombies maps from past Call of Duty titles. Maps like “Nach Der Untoten,” “Kino Der Toten,” “Moon,” and “Origins” are all here and remastered using the Xbox One edition of the game. Unfortunately, this release has not seen an Xbox One X enhanced edition yet, which would boost the resolution to 4K, but the game is still very much playable, nonetheless. The franchise sale lasts until May 29, 2023, on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. You can get these games on sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace here.
