You’ll Have To Send In Your Razer Kiyo Due To Firmware Issues

I recently picked up the Razer Kiyo webcam and I love it. Besides the Logitech c920, it’s my favorite webcam. If you haven’t checked it out, here’s our review on it as well. That said, Razer contacted me this morning and is telling me that I have to send it back to them.

Apparently, a few users (amount not disclosed) are having issues with the Kiyo’s light ring flickering under a certain instance. I haven’t personally encountered the issue.  But if they’re recalling it, it must be a big deal. The only fix is to update the firmware, and since the Razer Kiyo doesn’t have a dedicated Razer application. Like Synapse, that it doesn’t work with it. Your own recourse is to send it in.

It has come to our attention that your Kiyo camera may experience light flickering and then turning off when the camera app is minimized and maximized again. The latest firmware resolves this issue.  We will ship you a prepaid shipping label so you may send back your Kiyo and then we will replace it with a Kiyo in which the new firmware has already been updated

I complained about the lack of an application to control the webcam. This issue with the firmware could have also been avoided if one existed. Now, if you own this item, you’ll have to send it in. Of course, that means you’ll be without the webcam and be inconvenienced as such.

Update: Just got my label to send it back. Looks like it’s going away for a while.

So if you have the Razer Kiyo webcam, you might want to check your email. You’ll have to send yours out, just like I will.

Editor’s Note: Oh how I hate recalls. Especially when it’s regarding an item I use on a constant basis. That being the case, I applaud Razer for taking this seriously. Sure, it stinks that I’ll be without for 1-2 weeks. But at least (hopefully) I’ll have a working webcam. Now, if they develop an application or hook it into their Razer Synapse app, we shouldn’t have this issue again.
