Yet Another Record Shows Off Nintendo Switch Software Dominance

Nothing compares. Period.

Nintendo Switch Successor

I’ve talked a lot about the Nintendo Switch over the last nearly eight years, and for good reason. This console and the many games that have been put on it have been a key part of my life. I’ve reviewed dozens of them, and I’m looking forward to the Switch 2. However, it’s important to note the “milestones” that the system has had, and continues to have, to truly spell out just how many successes Nintendo has had with this system. For example, you might recall a story that the Switch had 72 million-sellers across first-party games, a record which no other console can state.

However, as revealed by analyst Paul Gale, the Nintendo Switch has yet another sales record with its software, as it’s had over 21 titles cross 10 million copies sold! And when you look at how all the other systems stack up to that record…it’s very revealing.

As of December 31st, 2024, Nintendo Switch has 21 games that have sold 10 million copies or more…the most ever for a console. Here is how others fare:

2) Xbox 360 – 11
3) Nintendo DS – 10
4) Wii – 9
5) PlayStation 4 – 9
6) Nintendo 3DS – 7
7) Game Boy – 6
8) PlayStation 2 – 5… pic.twitter.com/BJkiqPKixQ

That’s insane, but it gets even wilder. Remember, Pokemon Legends Z-A will be one of the last big first-party Switch games, and given how past entries have done; it could clear 10 million if it’s quality.

Another thing to note is that I’d wager pretty much every one of those titles that crossed ten mil were exclusives, which highlights much Nintendo rocks it despite not being multiplatform. Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, Pokemon and more all had games that did that without being on other systems.

The only question is…can the Switch 2 do similar numbers?
