Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Open Championship Announced

By Kevin KellyMarch 15, 2025
Virtua Fighter Open Championship

Sega has announced that Virtua Fighter will have an open championship tournament. The trailer for the tournament was released yesterday, featuring footage from the year’s first major event, Frosty Faustings, leading into what will be a major occasion for Sega to crown the $100K USD winner.

Four regions will kick off the competition, with Japan having its own separate bracket. Many companies have embraced eSports to establish their own fighting game leagues, such as Capcom Cup and Pro Kompetition. With the release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. last month, it’s now Sega’s turn. The tournament will use the Steam version of the game, where competitors will battle it out.

Virtua Fighter Open Championship, the series’ first-ever global tournament, is on its way!

This tournament will feature Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., with preliminaries taking place in North America, Europe, Japan, and Asia (all Asian regions except Japan).

To secure a spot in the grand finals, you must rank among the top at your regional tournament. The champion of the grand finals will walk away with a $100,000 cash prize!

The first qualifier will be held at the upcoming Combo Breaker tournament this coming May 23rd, according to Virtua Fighter Dot Com. No further details have been revealed thus far as to which other tournaments will be a part of the circuit such as Evo Japan which will be happening in the same month.

Evo Japan will have its’ own Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. championship tournament as well as a 5 vs 5 and Beat Tribe Cup.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is available on Steam. Its’ PlayStation 4|5 counterpart, Ultimate Showdown is also available now.
