While this is not the same thing as the game going gold, the announcement is still a pretty big sign that Rockstar is locked in on the current release date. After the game was previously pushed to November 19, 2026, there was always going to be some concern that another delay could happen, but opening pre-orders this close to launch makes it feel like Grand Theft Auto VI is on track and finally ready to make its long-awaited debut later this year.
That should come as a relief to just about everyone watching the game, especially since Grand Theft Auto VI is easily one of the biggest releases of the year, if not the generation. Rockstar has spent years building toward this moment, and with pre-orders now dated, the countdown to November is starting to feel a lot more real.
It is also worth keeping in mind that Grand Theft Auto VI is currently only in development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no last-generation version for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and Rockstar has not announced a PC version of the game at this time. That said, I wonder which console the game will performance on better? And will that determine which console you’ll pick up if you don’t already own one, in the new era of overpriced and outdated consoles.
