While Vampire Crawlers seems like a simple game, there are a number of mechanics you’ll want to pay attention to if you want to dominate, and one of those is the Crawlers you take into battle and how Colored Trigger Gems work. Since the game doesn’t really explain it, we’ll handle the heavy lifting.
What Are Colored Trigger Gems and What Do They Do?

Vampire Crawlers features a roster of characters called Crawlers that you can earn by completing feats and then spending some coin to recruit them. And while that sounds like hard work, the reason you’ll want to bring these Crawlers into battle is their passive abilities, which are activated by card colors.
Let’s play this out via an example; take the priestess Svor Clerioi, who happens to be one of my favorites because of her passive. She’ll heal you for 3 points when her card is played, plus an additional 1 point for every blue card played while she’s still in effect, and that stacks. While that doesn’t seem like much, when you’re getting smacked in the face repeatedly, she becomes very powerful once the fight is over and you need to recover.
Since her passive requires a blue card, any blue card you play will trigger her healing. However, you can also trigger it with a blue Trigger Gem if the RNG gods decide to bless you with one. These gems can be socketed into any card, regardless of that card’s color.

Once socketed, anytime you play a blue card or any card that now has a blue Trigger Gem in it, Clerioi will heal you. Of course, that’s just one example. This works for all different Crawlers and Trigger Gem colors that you’ll randomly find: Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, and the coveted multi-colored Trigger Gem, which works for any trigger color. Once you understand this system, it gives you a real advantage in Vampire Crawlers, especially when you’ve found that perfect Crawler for your ultimate build.

Speaking of Vampire Crawlers, be sure to check out our review of the game. I loved it and called it one of my best gaming experiences of 2026 to date, and I say that as someone who isn’t even a fan of card battling games. I’ve been completely smitten with it.
