During the Triple-I Initiative Showcase on April 9, 2026, a title I’ve been keeping a close eye on, Valor Mortis, finally reappeared with something meaningful. Not only did we get a fresh look at the game, but the long-awaited release window was also confirmed. Valor Mortis, from One More Level, the team behind the fast-paced cybernetic ninja hit Ghostrunner, is now set to launch in Fall 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
While I’ve only had limited hands-on time with the game, it immediately stood out to me, especially as someone who gravitates toward Soulslike experiences. What makes Valor Mortis different is how it approaches that formula. Instead of the traditional third-person perspective, the game is played entirely in first-person, which gives combat and movement a very different feel. That alone isn’t completely new, but the way One More Level is executing it here feels distinct and far more deliberate than what we typically see.
The setting also helps separate it from the usual crowd. Rather than leaning into the standard dark fantasy tropes, Valor Mortis takes place in a warped version of the Napoleonic-era wars of the 1800s, which adds a unique identity to the experience and makes it stand out even more.
This latest reveal also gave us a much better look at the game overall, particularly the level design and flow. That’s something I didn’t get enough time to fully appreciate during my brief, timed demo at PAX West 2025, which you can read more about here. After seeing more of it in action, I’m even more eager to spend some quality hands-on time with the game.
Valor Mortis is currently scheduled to release in Fall 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, though an exact release date has not yet been announced.
