WEBTOON Entertainment (Nasdaq: WBTN), a global entertainment company and home to some of the world’s largest storytelling platforms, is partnering with the Paris Opera to launch a new original webcomic series that will bring the art of ballet to webcomics. The series, titled Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina), will launch in France on November 28.

Created in collaboration with the Paris Opera, Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina) brings the performing arts to new audiences in an immersive, accessible format. Conceived as an entry point to the Paris Opera’s centuries-long legacy of performances, the series also marks the first WEBTOON collaboration between a French illustrator, StillUnderworld, and a Korean writer, Honey B.

The Paris Opera is delighted by this partnership with WEBTOON, which allows it to continue exploring new technologies with the aim of promoting the art of dance to young audiences through new narrative performances.

“Webcomics and ballet are both powerful expressions of human creativity and passion,  and that’s what makes Secret d’une Étoile the perfect gateway for readers to fall in love with dance,” said Yongsoo Kim, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global WEBTOON at WEBTOON Entertainment. “We’re proud to support the Paris Opera’s centuries-long cultural legacy, bringing the stage to the mobile screen and helping the Opera reach new audiences in our immersive, accessible format.”

Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina) is a 30-episode series that tells the story of Joy, a young, talented Korean dancer in the corps de ballet of the Paris Opera. As she approaches a decisive moment in her career, Joy is overcome by doubt and loses confidence in herself. By chance, she discovers a principal dancer’s tiara that, upon touch, transports her to vibrant 1950s Paris. Living in the past as Cécilia, a famous prima ballerina of the Opera, Joy rediscovers her passion for dance and learns to truly express herself.

Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina) will be distributed on NAVER WEBTOON, WEBTOON Entertainment’s Korean platform, and WEBTOON’s English-language platform at a later date.
