Today is Mario Day in Japan. To celebrate, Nintendo hosted a brand new Nintendo Direct. This one was a short direct for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It features a brand new trailer.
One thing I enjoyed is they brought back one of the scenes from the first trailer with the introduction of Bowser Jr. This time, it had Yoshi make an appearance in it, though. There are also more scenes showing Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, as well as scenes showing off Peach and Toad on a separate adventure. Likely means our main cast could be divided into two groups before teaming up again at the end of the movie. Toad gets some power-ups and new forms, too, in the trailer.
After the trailer, we get some cast announcements. First off is Wart. Wart is someone who hasn’t been used in Mario Media for years. It is nice to see him make a comeback in some regard. Wart will be voiced by Luiz Guzmán. You might know him as Gomez in the Netflix Series Wednesday. Issa Rae gets cast as Honey Queen, and finally, the one I have been waiting for, Donald Glover as Yoshi.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct ends with Miyamoto disclosing that this movie is the center of the Mario 40th anniversary. There will be digital trading cards you can collect by logging into the Nintendo News app every day from March 10th until all 40 cards are released. If you go see the movie in theaters and bring your phone with you, you can scan a special code at the theater on the Nintendo news app for special digital wallpapers.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere in theaters April 1st, 2026.
