Tickets are on sale now for Tales from Earthsea and Only Yesterday, which will return to theatres in August for two nationwide screenings of each title.
Tales from Earthsea, directed by Goro Miyazaki, joins the Studio Ghibli Fest lineup for the very first time, celebrating its 20th anniversary. As crops dwindle and dragons reappear, mankind stands on the verge of total chaos. Lord Archmage Sparrowhawk, a powerful wizard, and Arren, a troubled young prince, search for the force behind this mysterious imbalance that threatens to destroy the land of Earthsea, in a tale of redemption and self-discovery that will take your breath away. The epic fantasy film will be shown in both the original Japanese and English-dubbed versions, featuring the voices of Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Cheech Marin, and Mariska Hargitay.
Only Yesterday, directed by Oscar®-nominated Isao Takahata (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya), celebrates its 35th anniversary. Having lived her whole life in the city, 27-year-old Taeko decides to visit her relatives in the countryside. As she travels, memories of her youth resurface, and after meeting young farmer Toshio, she wonders if she’s been true to the dreams of her childhood self. The stirring animated feature will be shown in both the original Japanese and English-dubbed versions, featuring the voices of Daisy Ridley and Dev Patel.
As well as the full features, screenings will include a post-film clip of bonus featurettes, “Nippon Television Special” (Tales from Earthsea) and “Interview with the English Dub Team” (Only Yesterday).
GKIDS and Fathom Entertainment are pleased to continue Studio Ghibli Fest with a seven-title lineup, additionally featuring the 40th anniversary of Castle in the Sky and the 25th anniversary of Spirited Away.
