If you were one of the many who tried to get your hands on Valve’s Steam Controller and failed, you’re in luck. Valve will be restocking more controllers starting May 8, 2026, at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT. However, this time the company is adding several requirements that should have been in place from the start.
If you want to purchase a Steam Controller during the next wave, there is now a queue system. Anyone interested will be entered into the queue, so you won’t need to sit on the Steam page and keep refreshing. Once you receive your email to purchase a controller, you will have 72 hours to complete the order.
All orders will also be limited to one controller per user. Not per sale, per user. That means once you purchase one, that’s it. No more for you, at least for now. Additionally, anyone who already managed to place an order for a Steam Controller will not be able to purchase another one during this restock.
Lastly, anyone looking to buy one will need to have a Steam account in good standing, and that account must have made a purchase before April 27, 2026. In other words, if you just created a Steam account to try and grab a controller, you won’t be able to.
I’m glad to see that Valve released, albeit too late, that these requirements were needed and should help more people who actually want a Steam Controller gets one. Sure, it won’t stop someone from putting theirs up on eBay, but at least it limits them to just one.
Meanwhile, the Steam Controller I purchased on May 4th is still sitting at the packing status, despite having gotten my order in 2 minutes after the controllers went on sale.
