The Ace Attorney Games Ranked

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, Capcom

4. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney was an interesting title in the realm of Ace Attorney games. The series creator, Shu Takumi, actually wanted the series to end after the third title, as he felt that Phoenix Wright had been explored to its fullest. However, with the desire to make more games in the world, they decided to do something a little different. Mainly, to not have Phoenix as a main character, but rather as a support character.

Enter Apollo Justice, another novice attorney with a heart of gold that wanted to do right in the world. When things go upside on his first case, he ends up working with Phoenix Wright, and the rest is history.

What made the game interesting for many, including myself, was both the visual style that was introduced in the opening of the cases. Hand painted intros really set the tense scenes for each murder. Furthermore, the new characters, and new depth to the story, really made this feel like a sequel to the original trilogy and not some “other” game set in the world. In fact, outside of Phoenix, other characters made their return as well. Including Ema Skye, who had not been seen since the remake of the original game on the DS.

Also, though, while the cases were “standard” in some ways, they were honestly very deep. And all of them connected in one way or another right until the jaw-dropping end of the fourth case.

While it wasn’t the best game, it was still very strong. Furthermore, it gave the series the shot in the arm it needed to continue on. So much so though that even though Phoenix returned to the spotlight in the next game, Apollo is still a big part of the series, including being in the upcoming Spirit of Justice. So while it had faults, it was still a very fun game.
