It has been expected for a while, but now it’s official! Nintendo has announced that the prices of its Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch Online service are going up in several regions. When these changes take effect depends on where you are in the world, so check your local region for more information.
If you’re in Japan, you’ll be hit with these price changes first, with the Switch 2 increase beginning May 25th, 2026. But that’s not all, in Japan specifically, the original Nintendo Switch and its various models will also see a price hike on May 25th, 2026.
The image below should provide the details you need.
So what about the rest of the world? Well if you want a Nintendo Switch 2 you still have time to grab one before the price goes up. In the US, Canada, and Europe, the increase won’t take effect until September 1st, 2026. So, I highly suggest that if you don’t have one yet and want to get one, now is the time to make that purchase.
If you’re ok waiting, the image below shows the price you will need to pay.
Interestingly, at this time, there is no word of a price hike in the UK. So, we will keep an eye on that and report it as soon as the information becomes available.
Finally, what about Nintendo Switch Online? Well, we don’t have an exact figure for the new price outside of Japan yet, but here’s what the announcement says:
Nintendo Switch Online is offered as a globally unified service, and pricing will be revised to support appropriate alignment among regions.
In Japan the price will be as follows:
As you can see, Nintendo Switch Online price changes will happen on July 1st, 2026. So, if you need to renew soon, it might be worth doing that renewal a little earlier this year.
I can’t say I’m too shocked by these price increases, given the current state of the technology and gaming world. This beautiful hobby is becoming more expensive by the day, and given the current RAM and Storage shortages, prices could go up even further yet if things continue as they are.
