Are you one of those Soulslike fans who likes to keep playing even after the credits roll? Maybe you’ve already beaten Mortal Shell II and you’re wondering if there’s a New Game Plus mode, better known as NG+, waiting for you afterward.
Well, the answer is yes. Mortal Shell II does have New Game Plus, allowing you to jump back into Fallgrim with much of the progress you made during your first playthrough intact. However, not everything carries over, and a number of important world and quest-related elements are reset once you begin NG+.
What Carries Over Into New Game Plus?
Thankfully, Mortal Shell II lets you keep most of the things tied directly to your character progression. That means you won’t have to start completely from scratch after spending hours building up your Harbinger and figuring out which weapons and Shells work best for you.
The following progress carries over into New Game Plus:
- Your inventory
- Shells you’ve acquired
- Map progress
- Your level
- Weapon levels
- Shell bonding progress
This makes NG+ a great opportunity to continue working on your existing build, finish upgrading weapons, or spend more time with Shells you may not have used much during your first playthrough. Which was a concern of mine with the game, since there’s not enough resources to max out more than two shells. It’s as if Cold Symmetry wanted to ensure you’d come crawling back again.
What Resets In New Game Plus?
While your character progression stays with you, the world itself is largely reset. That means you’ll need to make your way through Fallgrim again, defeat bosses, revisit dungeons, and progress through quests just as you did the first time around.
The following are reset when starting New Game Plus:
- NPCs that were killed; which is good if you “accidentally” killed any of them.
- Cleansed Beacons
- Ovums
- Dungeons and chests
- Enemies and bosses
- Quest progress with most NPCs
The important thing is that Mortal Shell II doesn’t wipe away all the work you put into your character. You get to keep your progression while the world and its encounters are refreshed, giving you another chance to tackle Fallgrim with a stronger build and everything you’ve learned from your first playthrough.
If one trip through Mortal Shell II wasn’t enough punishment for you, New Game Plus is waiting.
