Mario Kart World Announced Exclusively for Switch 2

During the Nintendo Direct that’s all about the Nintendo 2 Switch, Nintendo revealed its latest Mario Kart title, Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World will be released on June 5, 2025, alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, with a retail price of $79.99 USD. This new entry in the franchise introduces innovative gameplay modes and mechanics to elevate the iconic Mario Kart experience.

The revamped Grand Prix now includes seven interconnected Cups, allowing races to flow seamlessly from one to the next. Knockout Tour shakes things up with 24 racers competing in elimination-style matches, while Time Trials return with integrated global Ghost data for added challenge. VS Race introduces customizable team matches, and Battle Mode revisits fan favorites like Balloon Battle and Coin Runners, both playable locally and online. One of the most exciting features is Free Roam, a fully open-world mode where players can explore freely, complete side missions, collect items, and take advantage of the new Photo Mode.

Classic tracks such as Airship Fortress, Rainbow Road, and Moo Moo Meadows return with enhanced dynamic day-night cycles and environmental changes that add to the immersive experience. Multiplayer options are robust, supporting up to four players in split-screen, eight via local wireless, and 24 players online. While the higher price point may raise eyebrows, Nintendo aims to justify it with expanded content and features tailored for solo adventurers and competitive racing enthusiasts.
