Sony and IO Interactive have shared new details on how 007 First Light will take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro, and yes, this is another one of those “this is why you purchased the PS5 Pro” moments.
In a new PlayStation Blog post, IO Interactive broke down how 007 First Light uses the upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, better known as PSSR. The short version is that the game should look cleaner, sharper, while providing more consistent frame rates on PS5 Pro, especially when there’s a lot happening on screen.
According to IO Interactive, the upgraded PSSR helps reduce shimmering, flickering, and visual noise. That should make a big difference in a game like 007 First Light, where you’re dealing with detailed environments, lighting, hair, clothing, foliage, and all the other little things that can fall apart when an upscaler isn’t doing its job properly.

What stands out is how quickly IO Interactive says it got the upgraded PSSR working. The studio claims it had the technology integrated in about a day and didn’t need to spend weeks tuning every scene just to make the image hold together. That’s good news for developers, and hopefully even better news for players.
For PS5 Pro owners, this sounds like more than just another “enhanced for PS5 Pro” bullet point. If IO Interactive is being this upfront about the visual improvements, then 007 First Light could end up being one of the better showcases for Sony’s upgraded hardware. If only the PS5 Pro wasn’t so dang expensive for people to purchase one now.
That said, I still want to see how this holds up in motion. Upscaling can sound great in a blog post, but the real test is always gameplay, especially when the camera is moving, effects are flying, and the game is trying to keep the image clean without falling apart.
Outside of PS5 Pro, IO Interactive says 007 First Light will use AMD FSR 3.1.5 on other platforms. So, while Sony is clearly using this as another PS5 Pro flex, the game won’t be leaving everyone else out in the cold.
007 First Light is heading to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as the Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
