One of the criticisms of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was how the terminology was different than the old XSeed and NIS America localizations of the Trails series. One of the weirdest translations from Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was changing the mechanical devices into Orbal Golems instead of the more commonly used term Archaism, which shows up more and more frequently in the future titles. Looks like after hearing the complaints from the fanbase, Gungho took some initiative and has just pushed out a brand new patch update that changes quite a lot of the text.
Odds are that they were able to make these changes due to having the voice cast for the next game in the series, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. Not only did they change these terms, but they also changed the pronunciation of words that come up in future titles. One big instance is the region of Liberl itself. In the original game, they used the pronunciation of Liberal, whereas in the new patch they now have it more in line with “Liberrl”. I personally found the Liberal one humorous. I know it set some people off, though.
It must have been quite the undertaking on their end, but I do think it will benefit the series in the long run. Not only can they fix the first game, but it means that they can keep the rest of the games in the Trails in the Sky remakes straight. Kudos to GungHo Online Entertainment for putting such effort into making things more in line with the Trails series. Always love when a team keeps adding effort into the games they already made.

There is also a Steam branch set up so you can play the old version of the game in case you loved hearing about the Liberal News. Unfortunately, that is only available on Steam. Console versions of the game, once updated, can’t go back.
