Modern-day kaiju films are tricky to do. If you do them properly, like Godzilla Minus One, you get something that is fun, dramatic, and wins a freaking Oscar. Or, you go on the other side of things and look at the recent Godzilla and Kong films, which are the definition of “mindless fun” and don’t have the greatest of depth. The last one, “A New Empire,” did well in theaters, and as such, another film is in production right now. Today, we got the first teaser for it alongside the film’s official title: Godzilla x Kong Supernova.
Given the “cosmic-sounding” name, one could argue that there will be a threat from beyond Earth is coming to “make things difficult,” forcing Godzilla and Kong to team up once again. Some wonder if “Space Godzilla” might be on the docket, or if they’re doing something completely new. The name “Supernova” does imply something about the sun or a star, so there are options out there to “make it stick.
