Square Enix has released a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo for Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. Ahead of the full port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on these consoles, players can check out the first couple of chapters of the game. The demo also features a carryover save for when the full game releases in June.
Previously, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth came out in 2024 for PlayStation 5. This June will see the port of the game for Switch 2 and Xbox. Back in January, Switch 2 and Xbox got a port of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the first game in the Final Fantasy VII trilogy of remakes. In our review of the Switch 2 version, we noted that despite some dips in resolution, it’s overall “an impressive and fantastic port.”
If you’re familiar with the remake series already, you may approach Rebirth with some trepidation. The sequel expands upon the first game, offering a much more expansive experience. But can the Switch 2 handle it?
Thankfully, I can assuage your fears. I recently went hands-on with the port and found it surprisingly impressive. Sure, it has its graphical bumps, but it runs much smoother than I would’ve expected. In an interview with The Outerhaven, Director Naoki Hamaguchi told me that despite early “concerns,” him and the development team “were able to gain confidence in how much we could achieve with the right amount of ingenuity.”

Ultimately, any way to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a great way to play it. In our review for its PS5 release, I noted that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth “greatly expands upon the world of Remake, both figuratively and literally.” And if you’re still not sold, why not check out the demo? See how you like it and see how it runs.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth did get a demo for PlayStation 5, which included most of the first chapter. Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S players will get an even more in-depth demo. This will include both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the game. Chapter 1 focuses on the Nibelheim flashback, providing backstory on Cloud and Sephiroth. Meanwhile, Chapter 2 opens up the world as players get to explore the Grasslands.
Switch 2 players may download the demo here. Meanwhile, Xbox Series X/S players may find the demo here. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will arrive on these consoles on June 3rd, 2026.
