Kyokugen Karate always had a presence in Fatal Fury. Surprisingly, Mr. Karate has now stepped in. Mr. Karate was revealed at Evo Japan 2026 yesterday. Once an enforcer on the beheadst of Geese Howard, Mr. Karate seems to be back for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It may not be the very Mr. Karate that a lot of Art of Fighting fans remember, though.
Teased last year with a tengu mask and a coin flip, he’s back. However, he seems to be a bit different from his other appearances. His karate Gi has been replaced by slacks and shoes and a cape-like coat, for instance. It seems as though he’s got a thing for kicks this time around. The hairstyle is a dead giveaway.
Takuma was the first to don the mask of Mr. Karate. In other titles, Ryo, from the same game, also used it. The tiger motif is the possible giveaway for who it could be. In the Art of Fighting games, the two protagonists – Ryo and Robert – usually represent the dragon and the tiger. The two animals symbolize the incredible rivalry between two martial artists. The look itself resembles Robert Garcia – friend to the Sakazaki family. They also have a team in the King of Fighters series.
Robert is one of the two characters from Art of Fighting to keep up the appearance in City of the Wolves. Mr. Big came out of retirement recently, also for Season 1’s DLC. With Mr. Karate joining the ranks, all three major villains of the series have crossed over to Fatal Fury.
As to what possesses Robert to take to being Mr. Karate this time remains to be seen. Or is it really him? Robert Garcia seems to fit the appearance of this Mr. Karate and has appeared in City of the Wolves through the Episodes of South Town story and Arcade mode. Perhaps this is a possible test for the Art of Fighting game that SNK is currently working on.
Mr. Karate is the second last character to come Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, and Wolfgang Krauser, are already in playing the rest of the Wolves old and new for Season 2. Fist of the North Star’s Kenshiro will be stepping in to shake up the game, too.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is available on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
