A new gameplay trailer for Game Freak’s upcoming action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, has been released. While it’s a bite-sized one minute of footage, it manages to pack in quite a bit, giving us a much better look at how the game actually plays.
A few things stand out immediately. Watching Emma parry attacks in succession is striking, and it’s hard not to draw comparisons to FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. That tight, rhythm-based defensive play looks like it could be a core part of how combat feels, and if the execution is anywhere close to what Sekiro achieved, that’s a very encouraging sign.
Also on display is the tandem dynamic between Emma and her companion Koo. Seeing that window of decision-making in battle; whether to press the attack, set up a defensive play, or provide support for Koo, looks like it could add a meaningful layer of strategy to the combat. It’s the kind of system that sounds simple on paper but could have a lot of depth depending on how the game builds around it, and it’s something I’m eager to get my hands on.
The trailer also weaves in a few story beats, including the introduction of two new characters. Their roles and how they fit into the larger narrative of Beast of Reincarnation remain unclear for now, but their brief appearances are enough to add some intrigue.
Ultimately, this is a game that Game Freak has clearly wanted to make for a long time, and every new look at it only reinforces that it could be something truly special. The bad news? The wait continues, as Beast of Reincarnation is still a few months out, launching August 4, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
