Well, this was one of the bigger surprises out of EVO 2026. Gameplay Group International and Paramount Games Studio, in collaboration with Avatar Studios, revealed that pre-orders are now live for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. Players can pre-order the digital version now through the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, while PC players can pre-purchase the game through Steam. The game is set to launch on July 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with full cross-play support available at launch.
Anyone who pre-orders Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will also get access to the closed beta, which runs from July 2 through July 5. Pre-orders also include gold color variants for Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, and Sokka, along with the Samurai Appa support character skin.
The Standard Edition will be priced at $29.99, while the Deluxe Edition will include a digital art book, the game’s soundtrack, unique HUDs, and the Year 1 Pass. That pass includes Bolin, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong, Uncle Iroh, and one more character that will be decided through a limited-time community vote.
That vote is where things get a bit more interesting. The community vote will be open exclusively to fans who pre-order Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, with eligible players able to vote between five potential characters from both of Avatar shows, beginning in late summer. Those characters are Amon, Kuvira, Bumi, Asami, and Tenzin. It’s a diverse cast of possibilities, and they all bring something to fans of the shows.
Amon would bring the Equalist threat from The Legend of Korra, and honestly, he feels like one of the more obvious picks if you want a villain who can shake things up. Kuvira is another strong choice, especially with her metalbending and military-style fighting approach. Either one could bring something very different to the roster.
Then there is King Bumi, who is still one of the most unpredictable earthbenders in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Asami would be another non-bender option, relying more on technology and hand-to-hand combat, while Tenzin would bring proper airbending mastery and the weight of Aang’s legacy. That is not a bad list of choices, though I can already see this turning into a heated debate among Avatar fans.
Personally, I’d love it if either Tenzin or Asami made the cut. Obviously, Tenzin would be a powerful airbender, and I can already imagine what sort of fighting style he’d have, mostly zoning and playing the neutral game with powerful gusts of wind. While Asami, being a non-bender, would depend on gadgets to get the job done, sort of how C. Viper is in Street Fighter 4/6. Those would be my choices. Still, I wouldn’t mind of the characters would eventually make it into the game.
It is also worth pointing out that Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is launching at a lower price than most modern fighting games, which could help it find an audience fast. That, combined with cross-play, and a closed beta ahead of launch are not bad ways to get people in the door, especially for a licensed fighting game that already has a built-in fanbase.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launches digitally on July 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
