Are 3rd-Party Games Struggling On Nintendo Switch 2?

It may not be as bad as some are making it out to be.

Nintendo Switch 2

It’s always fascinating to see some of the “quick reactions” people make to certain events, even when there’s no real evidence to back up that a “trend” is being formed. Case in point, when the Nintendo Switch 2 was fully unveiled and its price was shown, many people thought it was “too expensive,” despite the fact that it was a truly “upgraded Switch” with many new features and improved processing power. They thought it “wouldn’t sell,” and then it set the record for the best console launch in video game history. So, it shows what they know.

Now, a new report has dropped that some people are jumping on…despite it not being a fully painted picture of what’s going on.  Specifically, a report from The Game Business states that certain 3rd party games are selling in rather low numbers on the Switch 2, with some even stating that it’s gone “below their lowest expectations.”

It's too early to draw conclusions, but this indicates Switch 2 owners are buying 3rd Party games, but the attach rate was low.

Owners bought Mario Kart World, maybe the Zelda remasters, a couple of 3rd Party games, but that wasn't enough to provide good sales across all 10+ 3rd…

As Stealth fairly states, it’s WAY too early to make conclusions, especially when the Nintendo Switch 2 is only two weeks old! Another thing to consider here is that people were likely focused on getting the console and its killer app, Mario Kart World, versus a menagerie of titles. Not to mention, the economy isn’t the best in some places, so getting a bunch of $60-$80 titles might’ve been a stretch for a lot of people.

If that’s not enough of a reason for you, consider that every single 3rd-party title on the Switch 2 is a port, and thus, many gamers might have already played them on another system, including maybe the original Nintendo Switch! In contrast, 1st party games were the best-sellers throughout the first two weeks, and that shouldn’t be a surprise at all.

Oh, but Cyberpunk 2077 did well! That’s something to praise!
