While I’m not the biggest fan of remasters and remakes unless they’re done properly, I do understand the desire for certain games to get the remake treatment so that they can truly be brought to modern audiences, and so they can be “seen in a new light.” One such game that has been rumored for a long time to be getting a remake is Chrono Trigger. The title from the SNES wasn’t just a game that brought together legends to make something special; it’s still widely considered one of the greatest RPGs ever created.
As such, especially with the rise of the HD-2D remakes from Square Enix, many have asked those who worked on the game whether one is happening, even leading to a mistranslation that seemed to confirm the remake a while back. One such person who was asked about it was Yuji Horii, who helped supervise the SNES classic. During a livestream of his YouTube series, it was brought up that a Chrono Trigger remake has been talked about by many, and Horii deflected the discussion in quite a hilarious fashion:
“I can’t talk about that. Wait, if I say that, you’ll figure it out! Don’t ask! Asking is off-limits! I’ll get in trouble!”
…so yeah…I’d say that he’s trying to hide something, wouldn’t you? Granted, he was clearly playing things up a little bit, and the crew even laughed after his “outburst,” but he could’ve just “played it cool” and chose not to.
Obviously, this doesn’t confirm anything, but until it’s plainly said it’s NOT happening…there is hope that it COULD happen.
