Michael Schur’s New Show ‘Rutherford Falls’ Heads to Peacock

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 16, 2021

Michael Schur is a TV powerhouse, having produced The Office and created Parks and Rec and The Good Place, among a ton of other impressive credits. Now Schur has moved on to a new project, another small-town comedy involving local government and crazy neighbors called Rutherford Falls.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A small town in the Northeast and the Native American reservation it borders are turned upside down when local legend and town namesake, Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms), fights the moving of a historical statue.

The show star Ed Helms as Nathan and Jana Schmieding as his childhood best friend and Native American activist Reagan Wells. There’s also Dustin Milligan as reporter Josh Cogan, Michael Greyeyes as local casino owner Terry Tarbell, and Dana L. Wilson as Mayor Deidre Chisenhall. It seems the main conflict of at least the first season will be a statue of Nathan’s ancestor who founded the town which is in the middle of a road. There will also be plot lines around the local casino as well as issues in the Native American community, which Schur and his co-creator touched on in Parks and Rec. Schmieding, who is Lakota, is also a writer on the show, which brings a level of authenticity and representation to the show.

Rutherford Falls premieres on Peacock on April 22, 2021.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
