Attack on Titan to Receive Hollywood Live-Action Movie Adaptation

By Josh PiedraOctober 30, 2018
Attack on Titan

Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) manga series has already seen a less-than-stellar live-action movie adaptation in its native country of Japan. Now, Warner Bros. and Hollywood are going to take their stab at the dystopian franchise.

Andy Muschietti, the director of Stephen King’s It remake, is attached to direct the film. The deal to adapt the movie was made through Kodansha Comics and was finalized on Monday. At this time, there is no word on when the film will begin shooting or when it will release in theaters. There is also no information on whether or not the film will follow the manga’s story of if it will opt for its own unique story.

Attack on Titan, so far, has received three anime seasons with the third is currently on break and will not resume until March 2019. It has also received three animated films which recapped the television anime. In addition, it received two live-action movie adaptations which drew ire from critics.

We knew this was going to be an eventuality as it was reported last year that Warner Bros. was seeking the Attack on Titan license back in January 2017. Warner Bros. was producing a live-action movie adaptation of the popular anime film Akira when they sought interest in doing the same with Attack on Titan.
