Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Gameplay Breakdown

Ahoy Gamers! We are sailing ever closer to the launch of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Today, SEGA and RGG Studios hosted Like A Dragon Direct. The show gave us many new details about the Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza gameplay in Hawaii.

You can watch it here:

If you didn’t already know Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii brings back the real-time action gameplay of the earlier Yakuza games. Not only that but there is also seafaring madness to engage with.

Fighting Like A Mad Dog

On foot, Majima will have two fighting styles available. Mad Dog style, which showcases his signature knife-wielding antics, appears well-suited for taking on groups, much like Yagami’s Crane technique in Judgment. Majima will also have access to the Sea Dog fighting style, where he dresses as a… you guessed it, pirate. In this stance, Majima is equipped with short cutlasses, a chain hook, and a pistol. These weapons allow for both long-range attacks and close-quarters combat. From the gameplay shown, the Sea Dog style seems more focused on battling individual enemies and dealing significant damage.

Both fighting techniques look incredibly fun, and I can’t wait to see the madness that combining them with Heat Actions will bring. Yes, that’s right—Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii brings back these hilarious finishing moves. Majima even gets his own Heat Gauge in Mad Dog style, allowing him to create doppelgängers of himself when the gauge is full.

Sailing The Seas

So, what about taking to the seas? In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, you will recruit and train your crew through a system that appears similar to the Sujimon training from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

As for the naval combat itself, we didn’t see too much of it during this showcase. However, what was shown looked like a lot of fun. Could this be the best naval combat since Assassin’s Creed Black Flag? Time will tell, but at least we don’t have to wait too long for the launch now.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released on February 21st, 2025 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.

It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
