Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Dev Is Up For Giving Final Fantasy 6 Similar Treatment!

Do it!

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Final Fantasy 6

When something successful happens, it’s natural for people to wonder if something similar could happen with another property. For example, the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake that came out recently has gotten some high praise, including from our site’s own review! Many consider it the best of the HD-2D remakes so far, and that’s gotten some people wondering what Square Enix will do next with this visual style. According to one dev, the answer may be Final Fantasy 6.

In an interview with Inverse, Dragon Quest producer Masaaki Hayasaka noted that while it’s not a “concrete thing” that he can confirm, he does have eyes on the beloved pixel RPG for the HD-2D remake treatment:

“It’s not that we have concrete plans for this, but personally I would have to say Final Fantasy VI. Octopath Traveler – the first HD-2D title – was developed while referencing FFVI, as it had the highest quality pixel art. I would love to see how the game we referenced would look with the HD-2D art style.

Because this art style itself was created while referencing such titles, it’s highly compatible with games originally made using pixel art. This compatibility is probably why people feel this style is a match made in heaven with these types of remakes.”

If you’re thinking, “Boy, I think I heard of someone suggesting this recently,” that was me! I mentioned this as a possibility on the most recent Nintendo Entertainment Podcast! Plus, Square Enix noted awhile ago that while Final Fantasy 6 is beloved, it likely wouldn’t be able to get the full 3D remake treatment like Final Fantasy 7 did. So, do this instead! The people will love it!

And remember, the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is just the first of the trilogy to get this touch, more are on the way!
