Starfield: Shattered Space Expansion Gets A Deep Dive

Just over a year ago, Starfield released on Xbox and PC to a somewhat mixed reception, but I, for one, loved the game. You can find out why by reading my review. Today, we got a deep dive into the first expansion for Starfield, titled Shattered Space. What we saw left me very excited.

Shattered Space is an expansion that takes place on a brand new, fully hand-crafted planet, Va’ruun’kai, which is the homeworld of House Va’ruun from the main game. In this new story, House Va’ruun is on the brink of collapse, and its people need help finding a path forward. I find this intriguing because, in the core game, House Va’ruun is often just antagonistic towards you, and very little is truly revealed about them. So, I can’t wait to find out what happens that would leave them needing your help.

Alongside the main quest of this expansion, the new planet also features additional side quests and things to discover. Personally, I am excited to see what this more focused, one-planet approach will lead to in terms of content. That’s right—the entire Shattered Space expansion takes place on just one new planet. You can leave this planet at any time, but you will need to return if you want to continue the new storyline. Alternatively, once you start the expansion, you may choose not to leave the new planet at all.

To me, it almost sounds like the team at Bethesda Game Studios is treating Shattered Space as something you can enjoy much like a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, with a new region for all the new content—meaning you won’t need to revisit locations you’ve already seen countless times. For more details, take a look at the deep dive yourself below.

Starfield: Shattered Space launches on September 30, 2024, for Xbox and PC, and is available for pre-order now.

Jordan has been playing games since the age of six. This ignited a passion which initially led him towards game development before trying his hand in the realm of games media, starting in 2022. It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
