The Story
The raid on The Recovery Palace continues! Jaehwon heads straight for the inner chamber and takes on the Dragon Masters at the same time! Once the battle is over, they find the fruit; however, there are only about a dozen of them left. Jaehwon leaves it up to Caiman to decide what to do with the fruit. Once the decision is made, a watchful eye shows up and condemns them for their decision. This is followed by a battle against Garam Samyeong, one who has obtained power at the level of a general!
The aftermath of the battle sees Jaehwon return to Gorgon where he remarks that he will carry out his duties as a Castle Lord for once and mourn the dead on this mission.
Yeah, that’s a rather short summary of the story but this entire volume was one long battle with more action than story to be had. We did get a nice power-up for Jaehwon and he makes his intentions clear about why he wants to head to Abyss. Outside of that, it was mainly all action!
Characters
The only major development here is Jaehwon receiving his power-up by activating Genesis. In order to do so, he had to recall what his purpose was, what his world was, and why he was fighting for his world. Outside of that little reflection, Jaehwon hasn’t changed personality-wise all too much, although, when he chooses to honor the dead from the Recovery Palace raid, it does show a somber and caring side to him.
Garam Samyeong is a typical over-confident and maniacal musclehead. He remarks how he thinks Jaehwon is a worthy opponent but then expresses his disappointment when he manhandles him, only to become humbled after his power-up. If you’ve seen this archetype before, then there isn’t anything new here to be had with him. The fight was pretty fun while it lasted, though.
Caiman, I thought, had the best moment in the volume. When it came time to make a decision with the fruit, he had one of the most realistic and diplomatic answers to back up his decision. Caiman is a natural leader and is maturing very quickly. His nobility and honor are amazing and he’s truly standing out as one of the best characters in the series!
Final Thoughts
A bit of a short review this time but what can you truly say about a volume that is 90% fight scenes? I mean, the action was great… that’s a given as I don’t think I’ve seen a fight in here that has disappointed, and for the series to dedicate nearly an entire volume to two major battles, it came off in an epic way that made the fights feel as grand as the artwork depicted. While there wasn’t much character development, Jaehwon’s power-up and Caiman’s maturity took center stage here. The results of the Recovery Palace raid are sure to have some future implications for Jaehwon as well… especially since he put a MAJOR wrench into the Masters’ freedom of “mobility.”
With the raid over, we are entering a cooling-down period. Of course, Jaehwon still has his sights set on The Abyss and after Garam warns him that there are beings there more powerful than he is, it’s obvious that Jaehwon’s new Genesis stage may not be enough for him to accomplish his goal which leaves us wondering what his next power-up will look like?
