The Story

The episodic series continues! We open up volume three with Mari’s birthday. Arisa is thinking about things to get her but she can’t think of anything worthwhile. She asks Rena for help; however, she decides to give Mari some rocks… yes…. Rocks. They’re not just any rocks; however, they each represent a wish that Arisa will grant Mari any time she wants!

From there we get a couple of quick episodes involving hickeys, tending to a farm getting some vegetables, and spending too much money… on swimsuits (and doing housework in them. Yay fanservice.)

Eventually, we get to the big story arc for this volume. Mari and Arisa are invited out to a party where we meet Nanami, someone who used to be in love with Mari. The only problem is that Mari is keeping her relationship with Arisa a secret from them. Instead, she says that she just has a boyfriend. When they learn about Nanami’s old crush on Mari, they try to force them to kiss but Arisa breaks it up. After the party, they are walking and Arisa wants to know why Mari didn’t go out with her.

This brings us to a summer festival with your typical fireworks scene. Here, Mari decides to cement her love for Arisa and asks her the all-important question but… Arisa faints! This is when Mari’s memories jolt and she realizes what happened. From here, we go on a flashback to unravel the mystery behind Arisa’s amnesia… but will Arisa wake up with amnesia again?

Characters

First off, let’s talk about Nanami. We learned that she confessed her love for Mari back in the day but accidentally got rejected. How is it accidental? Well, Mari was too dense to realize it was a love confession, so she thanked her and said goodbye! Ouch! Despite the past feelings, Nanami is over her feelings for Mari… especially since Mari said she had a boyfriend (a lie to cover up her relationship with Arisa.) Still, you could tell she has lingering regrets because she was too scared to follow through with Mari after the “rejection.” Still seems like a nice girl, though.

The other big focus is on Arisa. Through the flashback, we learn what happened to her and how she lost her memories. Since it’s such a huge plot point, I won’t go into detail but, at least Mari proposed to Arisa. Whether or not it will happen remains to be seen but thanks to the flashback, Mari might have figured out a way to get Arisa’s memories back. Whether or not it will work remains to be seen.

Final Thoughts

Of course, the big focus of this volume was on Arisa’s memories and how she came down with amnesia. With the reveal happening, we can spend the remaining three volumes finding out a way to recover her memories. With Mari proposing to Arisa, we can see the end goal of this series. It will most likely end with Arisa getting her memories back and then marrying Mari. Of course, with how off-the-wall this series is, it wouldn’t shock me if something happens right at the end and she gets amnesia again. It would be fitting for the type of comedy series this is.

The stuff with Nanami kind of sucked (not from a reading perspective but from a relationship one.) You have to feel bad for Nanami because when Mari misunderstood her confession, it made her misunderstand the rejection…. A rejection that never truly happened. Still, for her to just let everything go had to be painful. Like… imagine you love someone, confess, you think you got rejected, then find out you didn’t but they hooked up with someone else because they simply didn’t know any better. That has got to be one of the worst feelings in the world. For Nanami to power through that at the party… she has my respect. Not sure if we’ll see more of her in the future but it would be nice to. After that, we almost have to!

Not really sure where the next volume is headed, though. We do have Arisa waking up from fainting so I’m guessing we’ll be doing some wedding planning… if she even remembers that she was proposed to. There’s that as well!

Either way, we’re over the halfway mark so we should be headed towards the end goal from here which will make things rather interesting!
