SD Gundam Battle Alliance Guide – Role Actions

243xrwd5tfcgeLast week, we talked about the SD Gundam Battle Alliance Meter Skills. Hopefully, that guide was helpful to you. Now, we’re going to discuss the Role Actions. These are special abilities specific to each Gundam in the game and can easily turn the tide of any battle.

First, let’s talk about the Skill Meter

Located under your Health Bar is the Skill Meter. At the start of every mission, the Skill Bar is empty. However, it will slowly build up as you dish out attacks to enemies. Once it gets past two bars, you can start to perform moves such as Role Actions, Chain Breakers, and Reversals. For this guide, we’re only going to touch on the Role Actions, but you can check out this guide about the Chain Breakers and Reversals if you’re curious about them.

Role Actions 101

Within SD Gundam Battle Alliance, there are three different types of units; All-Rounder, Infighter, and Sharpshooter. As there are types of units, each has access to a unique Role Action. To initiate a Skill Meter Action, you’ll need at least 5 bars of the Skill Meter available.

Once you have enough Skill Meter resources, pressing both the Left Trigger (block) and the special melee button will perform the Skill Action. You’ll know you pulled it off as the words “Role Action” are shown on the screen, along with a flash of green, blue, or red, depending on your unit’s class.

  • All-Rounder Skill Action – The All-Rounder’s skill action allows them to attack and combo much faster than normal. Because of this, they can cancel into other moves much faster. However, they did have to depend on their boost gauge, and if you haven’t put enough points into boost, you may feel as if this skill ability isn’t worth the hassle.
  • Infighter Skill Action – Since Infighters have to rely on getting in close to do the majority, their skill action is beneficial. Performing this skill action will allow the unit to resist being stunned or knocked down.
  • Sharpshooter Skill Action – This ability will refill all of the unit’s sub-weapons at any moment. I feel this skill action is amazing for the sharpshooter classes and allows them to do some massive damage. It’s great for fighting bosses, especially if you manage to stagger them.

Each Role Action lasts for about a minute, and there’s an icon that will appear, showing that you are buffed and how long the buff is in effect. It’s odd that the sharpshooter also gets this timer, as you won’t keep getting sub-weapon refills while the buff is in effect. It’s a one-time use, nor does it increase your sub-weapon cooldowns.

There’s also no limit on how many times you can perform the Role Action. You can keep pulling it off as long as you have the meter resources.

What else is pretty cool is that while you can perform Role Actions, you can also install plugins that will also provide additional perks when a Role Action is performed. This ranges from providing health to you and your teammates, to incremental healing, and more. Be sure to check out your plugins when assigning them.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance is currently playable on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. It plays just fine on the Steam Deck as well, in case you were wondering.
