Previously, the Mortal Shell II beta was only available on PC through Steam, but that changes today. Cold Symmetry has released the beta for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, finally giving console players a chance to see what the upcoming Soulslike sequel has to offer.
More importantly, this gives us our first opportunity to see how Mortal Shell II actually performs on consoles ahead of its August 20, 2026, release. To go along with the console beta release, a new trailer has also been released showing off Mortal Shell II ahead of its console beta debut.
Check out the Mortal Shell II console beta announcement trailer below.
The console beta is the same version currently available on PC and lets players experience roughly the first three hours of the game. If you eventually purchase the full game, you’ll also have the option to skip the Prologue after completing it in the beta.
Players who spend more than 30 minutes with the beta will also unlock the Flayed Harbinger cosmetic, which can be redeemed in the full game once it launches.
Cold Symmetry says bringing the beta to consoles was one of the most requested things from the community, so it is nice to see the studio get this out before launch.
I Came Away Very Impressed With Mortal Shell II
I’ve already spent some time with the Mortal Shell II demo on PC, and I came away very impressed with what Cold Symmetry has done with the sequel.
The combat feels much better than it did in the original Mortal Shell, while the various gameplay systems have also seen some significant improvements. The visuals look fantastic as well, and from everything I’ve played so far, Mortal Shell II feels like a vast improvement over the first game. That’s coming from someone who enjoyed the original, despite some of its shortcomings.
Now that the beta is available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, I’m especially interested in seeing how well the game performs on both consoles and how closely those versions compare to what I’ve already played on PC.
Mortal Shell II launches on August 20, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Those who purchase the Devout Edition (which I’ve already purchased) can begin playing up to 72 hours early, starting August 17.
