Netflix’s ‘Cyberpunk Edgerunners’ Official Trailer Released

It’s been quite a while since Netflix and Studio Trigger announced an upcoming anime based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 world, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The first time we heard of the anime was back in 2020. Recently, we received a peak of the anime during Netflix’s Geek Week 2022. However, today, the official trailer for the anime has been released.

Trigger is responsible for some of the better animes in the past few years for those who don’t know the name. Titles such as Kill La Kill, BNA: Brand New Animal, Little Witch Academia, and Darling in the Franxx.

The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid named David, trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a Cyberpunk. Along the way, David will encounter all sorts of weird and exciting things, but perhaps nothing as interesting as the people he’ll team up with if he wants to survive.

The animation looks bonkers, but name me one anime from Studio Trigger that hasn’t. Here’s hoping that the story is as good as the action scenes that Studio Trigger is known for. I’m getting vibes from everything Trigger has worked on just watching this trailer. Especially the over-the-top comedy from Kill La Kill – A personal favorite of mine. Speaking of which, go watch it – but only watch the subtitled version.

Take a peek at the trailer below.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will debut in September 2022, exclusively on Netflix.
