Actress, Comedienne, and Icon Betty White Passed Away at Age 99

Betty White, icon and the Internet’s favorite grandma, passed away today at the age of 99. White was an actress whose career spanned radio, film, and television, acting for over 70 years. She is best known for her work on The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Hot in Cleveland. According to her agent, she died in her sleep in her home. She was only seventeen days away from turning 100.

White first started acting after serving as a volunteer in World War II, as part of the American Women’s Voluntary Services. She started in radio, getting her own show, before transitioning to TV. She was also the first woman to produce a sitcom, Life with Elizabeth, and the first woman to win the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host. She worked on other classics like The Proposal, The Match GameThe Bold and the Beautiful, and even hosted Saturday Night Live.
