New Sonic Colors: Ultimate gameplay shows off the Wisps

By Keith MitchellAugust 5, 2021
Sonic Colors Ultimate

Like them or love them, the Wisps were an integral part of Sonic Colors, and with Sonic Colors: Ultimate being released later this year, you’re going to be either meeting them again or for the first time. As such, a new gameplay trailer was released that showcases the Wisps, in that new HD visual upgrade quality that you’ve been waiting on.

Keep in mind that the Wisps aren’t just for looks, as they enable Sonic to perform new abilities throughout his venture in Sonic Colors: Ultimate.

Here’s how each Wisp benefits our Blue Blur pal, Sonic.

  • White Wisp – Fill your boost gauge and accelerate into super speeds, destroy obstacles and enemies in your path
  • Cyan Wisp – Turn Sonic into a powerful cyan laser, move across the stage at lightning speed and zap enemies in your path
  • Jade Wisp – Transform Sonic into a Jade ghost, fly around and phase through solid objects to reach hidden areas
  • Pink Wisp – Turn Sonic into a pink spike that can roll up walls and ceilings and attack enemies
  • Green Wisp – Transform Sonic into a green hover form to reach higher areas and float past treacherous obstacles
  • Orange Wisp – Turn Sonic into an orange rocket, blast into the air and reach unparalleled heights
  • Blue Wisp – Switch blue rings and blue blocks to open new routes, turn Sonic into a blue cube to stomp down enemies
  • Yellow Wisp – Transform Sonic into a yellow drill and dig through the ground or torpedo through the water
  • Purple Wisp – Transform Sonic into a hungry purple frenzy and eat anything in your path

More Wisps than you can stand, I bet. But they’re super important, trust me. It will be nice to finally play Sonic Colors, outside of the Nintendo Wii. It’s about time that one of the better Sonic games (I’ll fight you) is getting a new lease on life.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate releases on September 7th, 2021, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
