Marian and Provie join the River City Girls 2 roster as playable characters

By Keith MitchellAugust 19, 2021

New additions to the River City Girls 2 roster, including a character you’d never guess.

Today, Wayforward released new information regarding its upcoming beat ’em up, River City Girls 2. The follow-up to the fantastic River City Girls and a game that surprised the hell out of me. We’re looking at a total of four new characters; two of which are playable. There are also a few new screenshots that were released.

First up is a character I’d never guess we’d see in any type of beat ’em up game; Marian from the Double Dragon Series. Yep, the same person who kept on getting kidnapped in most of the series is now a playable character in River City Girls 2. It’s a bit weird to see her in the game but here she is nonetheless and she looks completely different than how I remember her. She’s looking quite buff, I suppose she’s learned a thing or two since the Double Dragon days.

The other three characters have already made appearances in prior River City games; Provie (River City Random Underground), along with the Dragon Twins from River City Ransom, Ryuichi, and Ryuji.

Along with the character roster news, Wayforward also provides a few screenshots of River City Girls 2 in action.

River City Girls 2 is being developed by both WayForward andArc System Works and was announced back in July 2020.

There still isn’t a release date for River City Girls 2, however, the game has been announced for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. I’m looking forward to this as I enjoyed the first game. Sure, the combat wasn’t perfect and there were some nuisances, yet it is definitely a beat ’em that fans of the genre shouldn’t miss.
