Netflix’s ‘Fear Street’ is a Terrifying Trilogy Based on R.L. Stine

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJune 10, 2021

Netflix is constantly toying with new formats and methods of storytelling. Case in point, their latest feature Fear Street, based on the stories by horror author R.L. Stine, is a movie trilogy that will be aired on back-to-back Fridays this July to tell one, big terrifying tale of murder and mayhem.

Welcome to the home of Shadyside, Ohio, a town that has been cursed by a witch to suffer tragedy over and over again. See, this is a town where gruesome murders happen pretty regularly, but a group of kids is looking to make it stop for good. But for that to happen, they have to go back to the events of 1666, when the witch trials took place. Never mind that Ohio wasn’t really known for having Puritans or really any settled colonies at the time.

There are three casts to contend with, though characters from all three will appear throughout the films. Fear Street Part One: 1994 stars Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Maya Hawke, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and Jordana Spiro.  Fear Street Part Two: 1978 features Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, Gillian Jacobs, Ryan Simpkins, McCabe Slye, and Ted Sutherland. Fear Street Part Three: 1666‘s cast includes Jeremy Ford, Mark Ashworth, and Jordyn DiNatale.

Here’s the full schedule for the films of the trilogy will premiere on Netflix:

  • Fear Street Part One: 1994 – July 2
  • Fear Street Part Two: 1978 – July 9
  • Fear Street Part Three: 1666 – July 16

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
