The Old Super-Guard Changes in Netflix’s Adaptation of ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 7, 2021

Netflix has created an adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic Jupiter’s Legacy, which chronicles the passing of the torch from the first generation of superheroes to their children. However, the legacy they leave behind, and how the world has changed in the presence of super-powered people, makes that transition messy and dangerous.

From the trailer, we can see the show will give us a clear look at both the creation of the first generation of superheroes in The Union and the transition of their titles to their kids. A big theme seems to be about living up to an “ideal” and how the embodiment of goodness and justice are portrayed. While the powers are hereditary, or at least capable of being passed down, the trailer shows us that the first generation got them through a trial of some kind. There also appear to be some super-powered people in the trailer who are not direct descendants of the heroes, so there might be plot twists there.

The show stars Josh Duhamel as Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian, leader of the Union, with Leslie Bibb as his wife Grace/Lady Liberty, and Elena Kampouris and Andrew Horton as their kids Grace and Brandon. The cast also include Mike Wade, Ben Daniels, Matt Lanter, and Anna Akana.

Jupiter’s Legacy premieres on Netflix on May 7th, 2021

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
