Jordan Vogt-Roberts Set To Direct The Live-Action Gundam Film

By Keith MitchellApril 12, 2021

Look who’s getting into the damned robot.

Just announced by Netflix, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is now on board to direct and produce the live-action Gundam film.

Grab your Mobile suits! Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been set to direct and produce Legendary’s first-ever live-action feature film version of Sunrise’s GUNDAM for Netflix.

If you’re a Gundam fan, like I am, you’ve likely been wondering what the heck has been going on with the live-action adaptation. It’s been a while since it was announced, and yet we haven’t heard much of anything. The live-action adaption was originally announced by Sunrise and Legendary Pictures during the 2018 Anime Expo. Brian K. Vaughan is also on board and will be screenplay.

Outside of today’s news, we still don’t know of anything regarding the film. Heck, we don’t even know if this is going to take place in any of the ongoing Gundam universes or series, or if this will be something completely new.

This isn’t the only ongoing project that Jordan Vogt-Roberts is attached to. He’s also working on the live-action adaption of Metal Gear Solid. Another movie that’s been surrounded in secrecy. If you’re worried about if Jordan Vogt-Roberts is the right person for the job, I wouldn’t worry too much. I think he did a bang-up job on Skull Island.

I wish I could share more frequent updates on the film adaptation of @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN’s seminal METAL GEAR SOLID…

But❗️I can share this codec from the legends @DavidBHayter, @4pauleiding & @christophran as we celebrate MGS and try to make the world whole again.#MGSQUARANTINE pic.twitter.com/6AE9qLL74v

This movie is not to be confused with the other live-action Gundam series that was announced during the Gunpla 40th anniversary project. If you’re looking for information on that, you may want to check out ‘Gundam Build Real‘.

There’s no ETA on when we can expect the live-action Gundam film to hit theaters or possibly VOD.
