PlayStation VR 2 Controllers Have Been Revealed

By Keith MitchellMarch 18, 2021

When PlayStation announced it was working on the next generation PSVR, PSVR 2, one of my wishes was to adopt a controller similar to what the Oculus Quest/Rift S utilizes. It looks like my wish came true as PlayStation showed off the new controller for the PSVR 2 today.

Like the PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers, the PSVR 2 controllers will feature adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Going beyond that, the controller will also detect your fingers without needing to press them onto the controller. That in its self sounds interesting, and I can’t wait to see that in action. With most VR headsets, the controllers will be tracked by the PSVR 2 headset.

Improvements That The PSVR 2 Needs

Each controller will also feature several buttons and analog sticks. The Left controller contains one analog stick, the triangle, square buttons, a grip button (L1), trigger button (L2), and Create button. The Right controller contains one analog stick, the cross and circle buttons, a grip button (R1), trigger button (R2), and Options button. The grip button will be used to grasp items in-game, among other uses.

All of these announcements are a huge improvement over the previous PS Move controllers. I’m looking forward to seeing what else PlayStation has in store for the future of its VR headset. Maybe next time they’ll show us the headset.
