Watch Dogs: Legion Gets Long-Awaited Multiplayer Features Next Month

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs: Legion dropped late last year to a fairly mixed reception from critics and players. Even with that, many people were still wondering when it would get its multiplayer functionality enabled. Well thanks to today’s press release, we now have an official date. Watch Dogs: Legion will finally see its multiplayer go live on March 9th. So in a few short weeks, you’ll be able to hack your way through the dystopian streets of London with friends and enemies alike.

  • Free-roam open-world co-op where players can team up with their friends for up to four-players and explore London, encounter city events, complete challenges and participate in side activities
  • New co-op missions for two-to-four players using new co-op gameplay mechanics and giving players the opportunity to recruit the perfect team and fight back against London threats across the most iconic landmarks of the city.
  • “Leader of the Pack,” the first four-player co-op Tactical Op which will require teamwork and efficiency. It’s made of five interconnected narrative missions which are endgame content, made for players who are seeking a challenge. Players will need to strategise and communicate effectively with their teammates and ensure they have upgraded gadgets and recruited a strong cast of characters.
  • The first available Player-vs-Player (PvP) mode, Spiderbot Arena, where four players control armed spiderbots and compete in a high intensity free-for-all deathmatch.

The handful of modes will likely give players plenty to sink their teeth into once the update goes live. You’ll be able to wreak havoc in the open world with friends and also have them join you in a series of co-op missions where you’ll have to use all of your skills and gadgets to complete your goals. There will also be a PvP mode where you’ll be pitting your Spiderbot against those of other players to the death. And I just hope that is as cool as it sounds.

The update will also include two single-player missions for Season Pass holders. Both of which will release on the same day as the multiplayer content.

  • Guardian Protocol: DedSec tracks an algorithm that could allow AI to override human decisions. If they don’t find it, it could be used to turn weaponized drones into autonomous executioners.
  • Not in Our Name: A secret group is stealing DedSec’s name. Worse, they’re also stealing information so their employer, a ruthless tabloid owner, can use it to blackmail their victims.

It’s been a few months now since Watch Dogs: Legion first hit store shelves. While many players have surely moved on from its single-player campaign, Ubisoft is definitely hoping to breathe new life into the game with its new multiplayer modes. Will this be the next big experience to sink hundreds of hours with friends into? We will know for sure when the update lands on March 9th on all platforms.
