Netflix to Adapt ‘Redwall’ Books into Animated Film and Show

By Sara Roncero-MenendezFebruary 11, 2021

Netflix has announced they will be adapting the Brian Jacques’ famous children’s book series Redwall as a feature film and an animated show. Patrick McHale, who created the cult classic Over the Garden Wall, is set to write the film based on the first book. The series will follow the character of Martin the Warrior, though which books have not been made clear.

Redwall follows the fantastical anthropomorphic animal residents of Redwall Abbey, including mice, moles, hares, and badgers, as they go on various adventures. The series has 22 books, ending in 2011 after the death of the author cut the series short.

“We couldn’t be more delighted to announce this deal,” says Ben Horslen, Fiction Publisher, Penguin Random House Children’s told Variety. “These perennially popular stories have been etched onto the hearts of millions of readers, and we are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring those beloved characters on screen for families worldwide to enjoy.”

No news yet as to when we can expect to see this film, nor any of the cast involved.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
