Anime Boston Has Been Canceled

By Josh PiedraFebruary 7, 2021

It’s a headline we hoped to not see in 2021 but, alas, #1 on the Top 10 Anime Betrayals list, COVID-19, has claimed another one as Anime Boston has announced that this year’s convention is officially canceled.

The event was scheduled to take place from April 2-4 but with the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, the event was forced to cancel. This was also due in part to Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker continuing the ban on gatherings of more than 250 people. That ban currently does not have an expiration date.

While many conventions have opted to go the virtual route, Anime Boston stated that they will not be doing such a thing. Also, without any evidence of the pandemic slowing, postponing the event until later this year was not a feasible option.

Those who had registered for the 2020 event had their registrations carry over to the 2021 event. Those registrations will continue to be carried forward to the 2022 event which is scheduled from May 27-29.

Let’s see how it is a year from now!
